One of the best ways to promote your company is through your website's homepage. It provides a site visitor with a quick look into who you are and what your all about. It also highlights the visual language of your brand and sets the tone for the rest of the site.

When we approached the Ghost Social homepage redesign, we first needed to define the page's purpose and goals before diving into the design. It was important that the main header inform the visitor with a clear understanding of "what we do" and how to get in contact to learn more. This would eventually be reinforced throughout the page as well as provide a breakdown of the type of services offered.

With our approach locked down, we prepared a rough wireframe showing the flow of the content and how it would be placed on the page. This was a helpful exercise for everyone, especially the designer, and allowed for quick rearranging of content and also provided a rough idea for image sizes.

Once we received the go-ahead on layout, we regrouped with the designer and our illustration artist on a separate project to make sure everyone was on the same page. It's not uncommon for us to assign multiple designers to projects that require specialized asset creation like custom illustrated images that support content. You can view that project in more detail here.

The final page design incorporates relevant illustrations, modern font selection, and a new secondary color palette that compliments the Ghost Social primary green.

As websites continue to push the limits with more ways to make content interactive and attention grabbing, simplicity still remains the most important piece to a functional design. A few common mistakes when designing a homepage can include placing too many random widgets, overload of call to actions, and having a confusing navigation. More often than not, a cluttered design can result in high bounce rates and very slow response times.
